Balancing queerness with trans womanhood is a constant struggle. Even after being open about being a girl for 14 years, I still find myself often wanting to go back to presenting with femininity, even if it doesn’t fit me as well. Femininity would be easier to externally validate my identity, despite not being who I am. Through self-expression (and selfies!) I’m glad that social media provides trans folks a platform to truly express ourselves how we would like to be seen rather how society portrays us.
